Big Q Remembers Valentine’s Day in Paris

Is it possible to have the best and worst Valentines Day on the same trip? Yes.

I arrived at my station in Germany in late January. I was going to just finishing my in-processing by February 14. Going through the process of acclimating myself to my posting, I went into the USO. They had a special "bus trip" to Paris for Valentines Day. I thought what the hell. I asked for a pass, and shocker, I got one.

I've never claimed to be the smartest person on the special bus, and this proved it. For some reason, I never looked at Paris on a global map. I had been there before in high school, but that was in the Summer time. I thought Paris was perfect year round weather wise. Turns out no. They have winter too. Why I thought French Rivera when Paris was mentioned baffles me to this day. I didn't bring a jacket. It was cold. I had the bus most of time.

Also. Why it didn't occur to me that a Valentines trip to Paris would be full of "couples" is also a epic brain fart.

Here I was going to Paris. But it was Valentines Day, and I was alone on a bus full of horny soldiers and their "wives" for the day. I was laughed at a lot, and when they saw me wearing shorts and a t-shirt, the laughter got louder. Screw it. I'm still in Paris on Valentine's Day. It was the best, and the worst.
