We knew Thor: Ragnarok was about to change things for the MCU as soon as we heard what the subtitle was going to be. The Asgardian Apocalypse, involving a literal goddess of death bringing an end to the mightiest civilization in the multiverse, is probably going to shake up the rest of our universe a little too. Recently, Marvel chief Kevin Feige confirmed that Ragnarok would indeed bring the MCU to a place it can’t go back from, and lead right into Infinity War.
Earlier this week, rumors swirled that Samuel L. Jackson would reprise his role as Nick Fury for Captain Marvel. The former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been living in hiding ever since his last appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but he’s set to make a comeback in both installments of Infinity War. And today, we’ve learned that he’ll also show up to recruit Captain Marvel into the fold.
The Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disneyland and Disney World is a fun time: Jack Sparrow is there, planning another one of his escapades amongst scenes that are half new and half a collection of greatest hits from the movies. One of these original scenes, the “Wench Auction” will no longer be a part of the ride, Disney Parks announced today. Instead, it will be replaced with something way less uncomfortable and, hopefully, more entertaining.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is poised to bring Spidey back in a big way, and if early reactions from critics are any indication, this might be the best Spider-Man movie yet.* What comes next for our friendly neighborhood web-slinger? Well, he’ll be in both of the next two Avengers movies — Infinity War and the untitled film that comes immediately after that — and we already know he’s getting a sequel. We also know, as of today, that that sequel will pick up right after, and I mean right after, Avengers 4 concludes.
It’s a rare thing in Hollywood for a sequel to come close to, or even end up being better than, the original, but James Cameron effortlessly managed that feat with 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgement Day. The film sees Arnold Schwarzenegger return as the sinister Terminator android, but this time around his intentions are much more heroic. If you’ve been itching to watch this movie on the big screen in as immersive an experience as possible, Cameron and co. have cooked up a re-release of the movie in his new favorite medium: 3-D.
When you’re part of a giant franchise, there are going to be toys of you. That’s just how these things tend to work. Star Wars is in a realm all of its own, with toys ranging from giant Star Destroyer LEGO sets to Elan Sleazebaggano action figures, and, naturally, the stars of the franchise have their favorites and least-favorites. Mark Hamill recently shared his opinion on what he thinks is the worst Luke Skywalker toy, and it’s quite a doozy.
Ridley Scott has gotten into expansive universe mode. When he opened the doors to the possibility with 2012’s Prometheus, he immediately began to plan for more, to write a detailed pre-history of his seminal Alien which has come to us in the form of Alien: Covenant, and which, like the Universe itself, grows ever larger by the day. Now, it looks like he‘s turning his sights to his other sci-fi property, which is itself also getting a sequel this year. And Scott wants even more.
The end of one month means the start of another, which also means that new things are coming to a streaming platform near you. Netflix’s July instant releases are stacked, and include a few classic cartoon dinosaur movies, the premieres of a new Netflix original shows, and one Star Wars Story.
